Today I’m sharing what I consider the North Star of the project: Vibe Score. This is an attempt to understand and quantify four vibes that relate to human nature. It could work like this:
You take a 40-question online assessment and receive a brief report that scores each vibe out of ten:
Vibe 1 Score: 9
Vibe 2 Score: 4
Vibe 3 Score: 2
Vibe 4 Score: 7
These scores create a simple way to understand your vibe, what influences who you are, and how others may perceive you.
An Example
Let’s say Vibe 1 is Coolness. A high score means that you reflect the qualities of coolness this project has outlined. You’d get a report that explains how to interpret and use the scores.
For example, it may state that your composure and awareness may be a good fit for work involving people. Or, it could suggest finding a partner who’s a concrete thinker to balance your less rational side.
Think of it as a fun and less formal version of the Myers-Briggs or DISC assessments. The data may provide a new way to see, think about, and connect with yourself and others according to vibes.
It’s a Challenge
For the Vibes Score to be reliable and meaningful, I will need a deep understanding of the human qualities of each vibe. It will take time to develop a trustworthy foundation for the project and that’s part of the fun for me.
Because this idea (and my approach) is relatively novel, there are no books or research papers about vibes or their qualities. Instead, I’m using various sources on human nature, psychology, culture, neurology, and more to identify and explain them.
This is where we are today. I’ve outlined the qualities of two vibes and explained them across two series. The foundation is about halfway built. Two vibes to go.
Testing
Once the four vibes are in place, Vibe Score testing will begin. I am developing a standard question set that indicates each respondent’s vibes. Then I’ll ask people like you to take it and report their results. I’d want to know to what degree they are accurate, helpful, interesting, etc. This process, over many iterations, will hopefully produce an assessment that works and creates fascinating and helpful data.
I Need You
I started this newsletter because I needed a place to share research, propose ideas, and get feedback. That’s where you come in. The project can’t be successful without challenges and debates.
If you’re not yet subscribed, this newsletter is the primary way I communicate.
If you find this project interesting, I would love to talk with you about it. I want to hear your questions, perceptions, and ideas. I want to brainstorm. Please email me, leave a comment, or post on social media. Let’s talk on the phone or Zoom. Maybe I’ll start a group chat. Whatever works.
The Bottom Line
The Vibes Project is just getting started because I’m still in the research phase. The Vibe Score foundation is incomplete, but I’m dedicated to getting there, and I’d love to have you with me on the adventure.
